Good Morning Richmond and today the rest of the country,
True I have posted within the last 5 hours but something that was relatively disturbing has been brought to my attention and thought I would make an award show out of it.
Welcome Ladies and Gentlemen to part one of the Terrible People Awards. Today we are honoring the Westboro Baptist Church! Now, for an atheist as myself to actually be offended by something a religious group does, it has to be high on the scale. Before I get into it, I would like to make it clear that thought I have no faith in religion, I do respect and honor those who do chose to follow and worship, no matter what or who that may be.
With a beautifully titled web page, www.godhatesfags.com, the Westboro Baptist Church, to be here on referred to as WBC, tops their URL with a header ingeniously stating "Welcome, depraved sons and daughters of Adam" above a picture of someone standing on an American flag.
Commentary: I was not born in this country. However I have spent over 95% of my life here and love and cherish my nation and all that it has given me to this point. No one has any right to disrespect a nation that gives you the freedom to have the URL godhatesfag.com, and still be allowed to remain a church.
Moving on.
Adorning the page are pictures of people holding signs with such catch phrases as "God Hates Fags", "God is America's Terror", "You're going to hell" and a child holding a sign stating "God hates the U.S.A".
Commentary: Being a Jackass is genetic isn't it?
Caring on my wayward son.
Their latest blog is entitled "Bitch Burgers + Obama Fries + Slut Shakes = Stem Cell Supper For Doomed america". And at the very top of the blog in question is a link to www.priestsrapeboys.com. Besides blogs, you can view the WBC's picketing schedule. Notably, a Britney Spears concert is right on the top and it follows through picketing high schools and pretty much anywhere where there are people to throw rocks at them. Accompanying the schedule are other time passers such as press releases, audio clips, pictures and much much more.
Commentary: What is a bitch burger? Is it what getting shot at for annoying the wrong person tastes like? But yes being a jackass is indeed genetic...and hopefully in the case of WBC, sterility.
So, what can be done about America's third most entertaining group? (The first two are Scientologists and Republicans)Unfortunately due to that binding rule in the Constitution, we can only hope that this group of ignorant, and once again hopefully sterile group of hate mongers either realizes the error of their ways, dies out, or is involved in an unfortunate tractor trailer accident on the way to their annual god hates fall foliage getaway to Maine.
I do encourage anyone who reads this, which is most likely no one since I have a lurking feeling I'm doing this blog more to entertain myself than for the entertainment of others, to find a way to fight a potentially disastrous occurrence in the near future because the sad truth about this world is that when civilians disagree, they tend to kill each other.
Below are some pictures gifted to me from a contact, known today as Oprah, up at George Mason University up in Fairfax, Virginia where WBC happened to have a protest and all the rest of the pictures are from WBC's website.
I applaud George Mason's protesting of the protesters and encourage people everywhere else to follow suite in an equally peaceful way as demonstrated by the Patriots of GMU. Find their plans here at http://pride.gmu.edu/phelps.php as well as more information about yesterdays protest on facebook at http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/event.php?eid=56936904561&ref=mf
As a student at Virginia Commonwealth University and a fan of the VCU Basketball team, I would like to take a moment to express my feeling about the current situation that the team is going through. If you haven't heard already, the Ram's coach Anthony Grant has chosen to move on and coach a new team, Alabama. Understandably, he was offered of 2 million dollars to move but I thought that any coach of an already winning team would have a closer relationship with the players that he worked so hard to lead to victory.
One should not dwell on the past however. Looking forward, my hope for the Rams is that assistant coach Tony Pujols will be made head coach. Having 3 years experience with the Rams, and having spoken with him several times, I believe he has what it takes to successfully coach the Rams to a continued victorious career. Even without Maynor leading the team on the court, I still have confidence that VCU will continue their success.
Moving on, The NFL posted their tentative pre-season schedule, and as a devout Pittsburgh Steelers fan, I figured I would let you know what their schedule is.
August 13th 2009: Steelers V.S. Cardinals (This game has already been selected to be on ESPN) TBA Steelers V.S. Redskins August 29th 2009: Steelers V.S. Bills TBA Steelers V.S. Panthers
I am pretty stoked for the upcoming season. After review, much love to the Miami Dolphins, they have an extremely tough schedule this year.
I only have the Red Wings left as a hope for a championship since my basketball and baseball teams suck.
On a positive note, I would like to state how nice it was outside today. Now to start from the end of my day to the beginning because I keeps it real.
Upon my return from a diner I frequent, I figured that being a descent human being should have taught one how to "suck up". The waitress at the diner was to put it bluntly unattractive, both physically and mentally. The only time she showed an ounce of humanity was when she came scuttling up to my table to inform me that the diner was out of lettuce and there for my Greek salad was not going to be ready in the time that I would be there and to beg me not to be mad at her. This information also adding on to the 20 minutes it took for my friends and I to be noticed that we were waiting for drinks and a menu, and that she had somewhat of a fit when we asked for a few more minutes to decide on our food.
Now I know that the old rule "Don't fuck with the people who handle your food". However, when dealing with people who will be deciding how much money you take home with you at the end of the night, I do feel it appropriate to at the very least not be a bitch...or be extremely hot and showing off major quantities of cleavage to ease the pain of the terrible service.
Acoustic guitars, slurpies, and throwing a football in the park on a nice day is awesome.
Now here is a list of CD's that I've been listening to lately and you should too if you haven't all ready.
Northstar - Pollyanna Saves the Day - In Reverie (If you haven't listened to this by now you have no taste in music) Cassino - Broken Parachutes August Burns Red - Lost Messengers T.I. - Paper Trail (T.I. is awesome. I don't particularly like rap now a days. T.I. is the exception.) Rx Bandits - ...And The Battle Begun Boston - Boston (You can never go wrong with the classics) ABACABB - Survivalist (If you can figure out where the band name came from without looking it up, thumbs up) Ace Enders and A Million Different People - When I Hit The Ground Dance Gavin Dance - Dance Gavin Dance (The album actually makes sense which is sad but its still great)
Different Topic
John McCain's daughter Meghan looks foxy on Larry king live. I am in no way, shape or form a republican...or in that case politically diverse in any way besides the fact that I hate politicians, but I don't have to like them to appreciate a fine piece like that. Mmmmm
Different Topic, Back to the music So two bands of equal influence, Blink 182 and Green Day are coming out with albums supposedly around the same time. But Green Day's only good CD was Dookie so who cares about them. As one of my favorite albums of all time is Take Off Your Pants and Jacket, closely following In Through The Out Door by Led Zeppelin and Shadows Are Security by As I Lay Dying ( Don't judge me) I'm more excited about Blink's album than Green Day's. It also may be in spite of my roomate's almost weird devotion to them.
Unfortunately the frequency of insomnia with me occurs more than I would like, but that's all I have to say for now.
